Does touch screen technology exists before Apple iPhone?
Simple answer is Yes.
In fact the first ever Touch display patent was filed in 1965 and first iPhone was released in 2007. A Huge time gap, right?
There are so many patents on Touch displays and Touch screens and at the beginning of those days a touchscreen was used to assist air traffic controllers to manage aircraft traffic and some other areas.
Then in 1990s Touch screens were featured in some phones:
- IBM Simon — This is the first phone with a Touch screen though it failed to impress people.
- Nokia 7710 — Smartphone of that time with Touch screen.
- LG Prada — This one looks like a smartphone from 2012 to 2014.
Yes, Touch screen technology existed before Apple introduced in its revolutionary product — iPhone.
Then why iPhone was revolutionary and why not others?
Because Steve Jobs was visionary and he used the Touch screen to its potential (i.e. Multi-Touch).
In short, Back then when the iPhone was released all other phones looked like a featured phones with physical keyboard, not-so-good UI and no proper internet communicator.
Before iPhone, phones with Touch screen existed but they didn’t see what Steve Jobs thought will be the future.
