The crazy feature that I wished in a smartphone since the time I started following Smartphones is a Modular smartphone.

Modular Smartphone is a concept where smartphone is made up of modules so that it can be upgraded in the future similar to Desktops or PC’s.

How cool would it be when you go to a service store or order online the parts that you want to add in your smartphone or the hardware you want to upgrade.

For Example: You have a smartphone that has Snapdragon 865 processor after 3 years it becomes too old (considering the pace of advancements and improvements). Then all you have to do is buy the latest one and replace it with the existing one. Isn’t it cool?

At that time (4–5 years ago) so many companies were working on this concept. But only few smartphones like Fairphone, LG G5, Moto Z came into existence and out of these LG G5 and Moto Z are not completely modular.

After seeing the recently launched Modular smartphone — Fairphone 3, I came to a conclusion that Modular smartphones may not happen because that smartphone seems like it is brought from the years 2017 or 2018 i.e. with so many compromises.

I know to get something we need to make compromises but so far no modular smartphones are pretty awesome even with compromises. I think Google understood this and that’s why it’s Modular smartphone project — Project Ara is discontinued.

In the future, I’m not expecting any modular smartphones that grab our attention until Steve Jobs like personality takes up the challenge. But still I wish some day this concept or feature come into existence without generations long compromises.
